End of the Season Survey(click here)!
October 15th, 2016 (State Meet) - At the bottom...I have attached the ONOING & POSTED results for the entire season. I have also copied links to the SIJHSAA website for full official results for boys & girls (team & overall). They have pictures on the site of the top 4 teams and top 10 individuals, too.
Our girls team ran well to a 7th place/27 teams finish. It wasn't quite what they were hoping for as a team but the girls field was very competitive this year. Seventh grader, Joely Goulding led our girls as she has for every race this season, with a 15th place finish! Twin, Jade Goulding had a strong race as well taking 35th overall and finishing 2nd for the team. Eight grade Laurin Lunk (46th) and sixth grade Emily Biffar (49th) were able to finish in the top 50 for an all state medal. Close behind them were Emma Rick (54), Lauren Cooper (56), and Molly Grohmann (57). Congratulations ladies!
Our boys team ran just how they had planned and took home a 2nd place (28 teams) trophy. The boys had a goal of taking 2nd place and wouldn't settle for anything else. Sixth grader, Joe Schwartz led our boys just as he has every race this season with an impressive 6th place finish! With Joe leading the way for the boys they all filed in shortly behind him creating an impressive pack. Seventh grade Gavin Hearren took 15th place, eight graders Kyle Stewart, Caden Douthit, and Gage Nottmeier took 19th, 21st, and 46th place respectively. Not far behind them, rounding out the pack were seventh grade Ian Schrader (55th) and 8th grade Lucas Biffar (69th). Congratulations men! I look forward to seeing many of the boys and girls this spring in track and hopefully returning our 6th and 7th graders next year for another great season!
LAST, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST!! We will be having a uniform collection pizza party on Wednesday 10/19 this week during study hall. I originally told kids it would be Tuesday but it has since been changed due to a Band rehearsal conflict. Runners may return their uniforms earlier if they like, but Wednesday will be their opportunity to do so if they haven't already. Please help me to get the uniform top and bottom washed and dried before returning. Thank you!
Finally, I'd like to just say, "Thank you", to all of you for another great cross country season! This has been my largest group of kids by far and while it was a little hectic at first, we had a great season. I know that these extra curricular activities are not possible without the support of parents. Your support has been invaluable and I am truly appreciative. From a quick "thank you" email to washing uniforms to cheering on your runner at races, it does not go unnoticed. Being 1 of 3 boys in several different sports growing up I know how much work it was for my mom just to keep up with the laundry let alone all the various drop off/pick up, scheduling, etc. SO, thank you very much! I hope to see you all around soon.

October 11th, 2016 (Highland Invite) - Attached are the ONGOING & POSTED Results updated, through this meet. It was a nice afternoon for one final tune up race before state this weekend and a good last race for most. Great end of the regular season for Waterloo JH Cross Country!!
Starting tomorrow (Wednesday) only runners on the two rosters below will need to continue reporting for practice. I will be hosting a uniform turn-in pizza party next week to celebrate the end of the season and give kids a chance to turn in uniforms. Any athlete who is finished may turn them in early if they'd like throughout this week. Congratulations to all of our runners on a fantastic regular season as we finish up in the post season. It was a great year and I look forward to finishing it on a high note with the varsity group.
Note: I mentioned this in my last email, but thought I'd reiterate. Saturday's state meet allows us to run 7 varsity runners in each race. Additionally, I can enter 3 alternate runners for each race. These alternates will practice with the team the rest of the week and will attend the state meet on Saturday as if they are running. They will dress and warmup with the team before the race as if they are running. If all goes well, these runners will not have to run the race, but they will have the experience of going through the process this week and on Saturday for the future. These alternates serve the purpose of replacing a varsity runner in the event that they can not run at any point between now and the gun going off to start the race. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns from here on out.

October 6th, 2016 (Triad Jamboree) - Attached are the results for tonight's meet at Triad. The races were CoEd so that's why the race places are a little funky. Please rely on the overall team places and times to get an idea of how the kids did. Was a good solid performance by all, especially with the heat tonight
I've attached the ONOING and POSTED results that I put together. I've also attached copies of the official race results for each varsity race that was sent to me by the Triad coach. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
I'll try to get some information out about Tuesday's meet in Highland asap. Everyone should plan to run, but I will try to get varsity rosters out this weekend so everyone knows approximately what time they'll be running.

For those that weren't in Benton Saturday morning, you missed a MESSY one! Benton got a lot of rain and it really showed on the race course. It even rained off and on while we were there. The course was very muddy and slick in many places and it definitely had an effect on the races. Despite some falls, tough conditions, and an exhausting course our kids ran great. This meet can often be a good indicator for the state meet, and I feel like our kids handled the competition well. We definitely have some areas to improve upon and some places where we'll need to be better in 2 weeks, but overall, I was pleased.
The girls were once again led by Joely Goulding who took 20th place overall. She led the girls to a tie for 4th place out of 26 full teams. Even though the girls ran well, I think they definitely have room for growth. They did not have their best races this weekend and they know that. Which makes things more exciting. The boys were once again led by Joe Schwartz who had the best race of the day taking 5th place overall. Extremely impressive for anyone and particularly impressive for a 6th grader who moved up from 9th to 5th in the last quarter mile of the race. His hard work is really starting to show. The whole boys team ran very well and they continue to work together to post great team scores. Joe led the boys to 2nd place out of 30 teams! Awesome finish for the boys. I think they could finish right at that in 2 weeks at the state meet.
Next up is Triad on Thursday! This meet is unique because we will run two co-ed varsity races instead of a girls race and a boys race. More information coming!

September 27th, 2016 (Waterloo Home Meet) - Attached are the POSTED & ONGOING results for the season, including Tuesday's Home Meet. I also have attached the "official" results for the meet. Places, times, and school names are provided for both races. All names that were provided to me are filled in.
I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support the kids and for those that offered and volunteered to help out. It was greatly appreciated and the meet wouldn't have been as successful without your support. THANK YOU! I also wanted to thank Coach Huffman, Mrs. Huffman, and the high school cross country team for coming out to help at the finish line and cheer on our team. Thanks to Jack Latchem and the maintenance staff, as well as AD Mitch North for helping me get the course ready for the race! Thank you to Mark North for officiating/starting the races as well as helping complete the course with our finish chute. Thanks to everyone for all the help, support, and kind words along the way so far.
It was a great night for running as we finally got some reasonable temperatures to race. Both teams performed very well as a team. Lots of great individual performances that ultimately showed for great team finishes. The girls edged out Lincoln to get 2nd place and were only beat by the very impressive Liberty. Joely Goulding led the group once again with a 4th place overall finish. I'd say this was the best team performance for the girls this year. They're 1-5 split was a much improved 1:05. The boys ran away with the meet taking 1st place over both Edwardsville teams and a tough Collinsville team. The boys were once again led by Joe Schwartz with a 2nd place overall finish. This was also one of the best team performances by the boys this year. They had a very very impressive :32 split from 1-5 and a :53 split from 1-7. That might be one of the smallest gaps I've had for a 1-5 and 1-7 team. Pretty awesome.
Next up, is our Benton Invitational (Pre-State) Meet on Saturday. Everyone that is able to go will be attending. I know various kids/parents have contacted me to let me know that they have a scheduling conflict and will not be able to attend the meet and that is fine. If you have spoken to me or emailed me, I have made a not of it and I have been double checking with kids all week. Otherwise, I plan to take the entire team on Saturday. I will follow this email with an email about the meet on Saturday.

HOME MEET OFFICIAL RESULTS
September 20th, 2016 (Edwardsville Invitational) - I have completed last night's results and they have been updated on the ONGOING and POSTED results documents. They are attached to this email for your viewing.
Last night's meet was another hot one, but the kids were able to stay tough and come away with some great performances. The girls were once again led by 7th grade Joely Goulding who ran a great race and finish 5th Overall. The girls took 4th place out of 14 teams. Emily Biffar and Josie Briggs both ran great in the open races as well. The Open team took 5th out of 7 teams. The boys were once again led by 6th grade Joe Schwartz who earned a gutsy 3rd place overall. The boys ran well to finish 2nd out of 16 teams. The Triad boys who took 1st place are extremely tough this year. Aaron Nobbe, Morgan Stratton, and Riley Chamberlain all ran great in the Open race as the Open boys team took 4th out of 11 teams.
We have practice the remainder of the week and our next race is our HOME MEET on Tuesday (9/27). I will be sending out information about that this week as well as asking for anyone who would be willing to help direct runners on the course. This is our only home meet of the year.
Lastly, I have received several dollar donations from people for the homecoming parade candy/posters. Thank you and if you haven't donated, but would like to feel free to send a dollar with your runner to give to me. The parade is a week from today!

September 15th, 2016 (O'Fallon Carriel) - I have updated the POSTED & ONGOING results documents that I am keeping for the season. The update contains the results from tonight's meet in O'Fallon. Unfortunately, it still does not contain the full results from the Alton meet last Thursday. You will find the times for the Open race from Alton in the ONGOING results because I collected those myself. I did speak with the Alton coach tonight and he said he will get the varsity times to me asap.
Tonight's meet went great! The girls keep improving as a team and they barely missed 3rd place by 2 points tonight. They ended up 4th out of 10 teams and I think they have lots of improvement ahead of them, still. Seventh grader, Joely Goulding led our girls once again taking 2nd place overall! Our boys ran a great race all around and their impressively low 33 point total put them in 1st place out of 10 teams. The boys were led by 6th grader Joe Schwartz (3rd place) once again, but not far behind him was 7th grader Gavin Hearren (4th place) and 8th grader Kyle Stewart (5th Place). Our top 5 boys were in the top 12 overall and our top 7 boys were in the top 25 overall.
There were a lot of huge improvements on the team tonight from just 9 days ago at our first race. I was going through the times and noticed several kids cut off 3, 4, 5 minutes from last week to this week on the same course. One runner even cut off 11 minutes!! These kids put in a lot of work this week. We intentionally trained through this race so their legs were probably a bit tired, but it didn't matter. They were ready to compete.
Our next meet is Tuesday in Edwardsville. It's a great 2 mile course with lots of great competition as well as varsity and JV/Open races that give out individual and team awards! Hope to see you all there. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

September 8th, 2016 (Alton Invite) - This was a great first big invitational for both teams! Our girls team took 6th out of 17 teams and our boys took 2nd out of 16 teams. Both teams ran well on the hilly 2 mile course and all made improvements from the first meet by taking advantage of the cooler weather. I am still waiting for official times for our varsity runners, but the times for all of our open runners are on results pages. I will update it with varsity times whenever I receive them. Thank you!
September 6th, 2016 (O'Fallon Carriel) - After a long, hot, humid afternoon in O'Fallon I have some results that I compiled for your viewing convenience. I will send out these two styles of results after every meet this season.
The ONGOING results will have all of the results (individual & team) from the entire season compiled in one document so you can see how everyone is doing on a continuous basis. This becomes particularly useful as the season progresses. Feel free to click around on the tabs.
The POSTED results are more of a simplified, straight-forward version of the results that I post on the bulletin board at school for the kids to see how they did and where they stacked up on the team for each meet. These are definitely a little easier to read and will also be kept for each meet.
I will post both sets of these results to my website throughout the season, too. They can always be found there if you happen to lose an email.
I do not have any team results as this meet was run fairly casual. I do think the boys got 2nd place to Triad. I'm not sure how the girls placed overall. We had some really strong performances on both sides and a lot of kids that grinded out a tough first race of the season in the severe weather conditions. The girls were led by 7th grader Joely Goulding. She ran a tough race and stood out and led her teammates by almost 2 minutes with a 3rd place overall. Tough 6th grader Joe Schwartz ran an equally impressive race to a 3rd place overall finish, which led his teammates by over 40 seconds. I believe both squads are better than they ran today, but I think the elements shocked a large percentage of our kids. I think both groups can run closer to the lead runner than they did today and will be tough teams when they do.
Thank you for all the support and for signing out your runner when taking them home tonight!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. We go to Alton on Thursday night for a large invitational and hopefully some cooler weather.
